Conservatives wobble on hunting

It’s very interesting that the Sunday Telegraph, sister of the hunter’s staple Daily Telegraph, is running a story today suggesting that the Conservative leader, David Cameron, is ‘considering options’ in relation to a vote on repealing the Hunting Act.

The story is given added significance by the fact that the Conservative shadow DEFRA minister, Nick Herbert, confirms the line. He used to work for the Countryside Alliance and before that the British Field Sports Society, and is the shadow cabinet lead on the issue. For him to confirm that other options are being explored really lays bare the fact that Mr Cameron’s ‘promise’ to repeal the Hunting Act – as endlessly promoted by the Countryside Alliance – doesn’t hold much water.

The hunters are promising a ‘firestorm’. Bring it on!
