We’ve just sent this email to MPs…

We’ve just sent the following email to all MPs, and to a number of members of the House of Lords.

Good morning,

A gentle reminder that you are invited to the preview screening of A Minority Pastime: The Devastating Human Cost of Foxhunting at 7.00pm in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House. To RSVP if you haven’t already, please email me or call 07977 292537.

A Minority Pastime has been commissioned by Denise Ward and Jeanne Berry, two residents of the village of Elcombe, near Stroud, who were so upset by the actions of a local hunt that they decided to take action. Their local authority gave an official of the hunt an official warning under the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 and since then, Denise and Jeanne have worked with an independent film maker to expose the problems caused by hunting across the UK.

The invitation sent to you last week contained a factual inaccuracy. Whilst a local hunt was indeed given a written warning under the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003, we were wrong in stating that the local hunt had been given an Anti Social Behaviour Order. Lawyers for the hunt have asked us to send you the following statement:

“Further to our email inviting you to the preview screening of ‘A Minority Pastime’ we write to apologise for an untrue and misleading statement contained within our email. The League Against Cruel Sports wish to make it clear that no Anti Social Behaviour Order has ever been made against the local Hunt in Elcombe, Gloucestershire or anyone associated with the Hunt as a result of any complaint made by either Denise Ward or Jeanne Berry. We apologise for any inconvenience or distress caused by this misunderstanding.”

Misunderstanding explained, we do hope to see you at 7pm this evening.

Kind regards

Joshua Kaile
Parliamentary & Political Officer
League Against Cruel Sports

Tim Bonner of the Countryside Alliance said on Twitter last week that this was a “grovelling apology”. You can make up your own mind.
