Dogs as weapons

The League is gearing up for the full launch in April of its Fighting Dogs campaign, the League’s first new campaign for several years.

This will be a multi-faceted campaign aimed at several different areas in which dogs are used to fight with other animals for entertainment or ‘sport’. This includes ‘traditional’ dog fighting, the increasing urban cases of dogs being used to fight foxes, badger baiting, and ‘terrier work’ where terrier dogs are used to fight with foxes underground.

Related to all this is the increasing predominance of dogs being used as weapons. After all, as some people see it, “you can be arrested for carrying a knife, but not a dog”. There’s an interesting feature in today’s Guardian on the subject.
