Gemma Atkinson and Colin Baker lead celebs in backing hunt ban

Former Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson is reduced to tears as she watches horror clips of fox hunting in a new film released today to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the ban on hunting with dogs.

The hard-hitting film, by the League Against Cruel Sports, records the reactions of a number of celebrities including former Doctor Who Colin Baker; actress Annette Crosbie; Time Team presenter Tony Robinson; and naturalist Bill Oddie; as they watch footage of traditional hunting.

League chief executive, Douglas Batchelor, said that the backing of major celebs like Gemma shows just how popular the ban on hunting is with the public. Polls published today show that public support hasn’t changed in the last six months and roughly two-thirds of people back the ban.

“Gemma, Bill, Annette, Tony and all the other celebrities are just hammering another nail into the hunter’s coffin. Their bloodsport is a thing of history just like bear baiting”, said Mr Batchelor.

Over 100 people have been successfully prosecuted under the Hunting Act, including celebrity chef Clarissa Dickson Wright.
